Terms and Conditions for Unitec Cyber Security Competition


The Cyber Security Competition is open to students in Years 11-13 currently studying at a New Zealand secondary school. To enter, you must be a domestic student, as defined in the Education Act 1989 (i.e., the Competition is not open to international students).

Personal Information

By entering you give us permission to use your name and likeness (if you win) for future advertising and publicity purposes without additional compensation.

The information provided on the entry form will be used to contact you if you are one of the winners. Your contact information will be kept confidential. We will contact you for your consent to pass your contact details on to any members of the media who have any interview requests. You are entitled to withhold your consent.

If you are one of the winners, your name will be published for promotional purposes.

Selection of Winners

Entrants will be scored according to the challenges they complete. Entrants with the highest scores will be selected as winners.

Entrants agree to accept the final decision of Unitec.

Prizes will be awarded to the person whose contact name appears on the entry form.

Students who have been awarded the Unitec and IBM scholarships previously will not be eligible for the top 3 prizes in the Competition.

To gain the fees scholarship from Unitec and the scholarship from IBM you must be enrolled as a full time student in the Bachelor of Computing Systems programme within the Department of Computing at Unitec Institute of Technology. To retain the scholarship you will need to maintain a B+ average. The prizes are not redeemable for cash and are not otherwise able to be exchanged.

Notifying Winners

Winners will be notified at the conclusion of the Competition, Saturday 12th September 2015.

Disclaimers and Indemnities

By entering the Competition you warrant that you will not misuse any skills to exploit or attempt to compromise Unitec property, including networks, computers and the like; moreover Unitec takes no responsibility to any damage caused from misuse of skills outside the Competition. Each entrant agrees to be bound by all the terms and conditions of the Competition as set out here and on this website.
